David John PAMMENTER was born in Stow cum Quy in 1922 (Chesterton Q2-1922 3B:721), son of Thomas John and Melinda PAMMENTER (née COOPER).

In the 1939 register, at 30 Main Street, Stow cum Quy were his parents, Thomas J Pammenter [29-9-1891 horseman on farm; Melinda Pammenter [30-1-1895] school cleaner; brother Loenard T Pammenter [14-9-1920] cowman. There are 2 closed records.


Operation Torch, the Allied landings in North Africa saw US and British force land in Algeria on 8th November 1942. On 12 Nov, Bone airfield was captured via an airborne attack by the British 3rd Parachute Battalion on 12 Nov; men of the No. 6 Commando arrived on the following day to capture the port at Bone.. It is not known if David died of wounds or illness.

David was originally buried in Bone European Cemetery and re-interred in Bone War Cemetery on 26th April 1944
